The argument for infant baptism in the church has been Jesus’ quote that “only those who are born of water and the Spirit will enter the Kingdom of God”, but what is The Kingdom of God? Christians for years have believed that this is the afterlife, that if you aren’t baptised you will end up in hell (which many believe is eternal torture), that doesn’t make any sense since we know Jesus told the thief next to him on the cross “tonight you will be with me in Paradise”
Jesus described The Kingdom of God as
“Again he said, “What shall we say the kingdom of God is like, or what parable shall we use to describe it? It is like a mustard seed, which is the smallest of all seeds on earth. Yet when planted, it grows and becomes the largest of all garden plants, with such big branches that the birds can perch in its shade.”
Mark 4:30-32 NIV
This suggests the Kingdom of God is more of a community of Christians, a community that benefits even those don’t follow our faith as we create charities and pass humanitarian laws that benefit everyone.
“Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God.”
Luke 9:27 NIV
Could also be seen as evidence that The Kingdom of God is the community of the church led and united by God’s Spirit – NOT eternal life
